Biography
For almost two decades, Kelly and her partner Lisa Grossman have lived in a very, very small house in Lawrence, Kansas. She works part-time at The Raven Bookstore, a small independent bookstore in Lawrence, which survived a Borders within 1,000 feet that has since closed, but may not survive e-books, and the decline of reading altogether. She tries not to despair about this.
Kelly was a fiction fellow in the University of Montana’s creative writing program and has received fellowships from the Missouri Arts Council and the Kansas Arts Commission. Her work has been published in anthologies and literary journals, including Laurel Review, Literary Bird Journal, Coal City Review, and Muse & Stone. My Almost Certainly Real Imaginary Jesus is her first book.
Hi, I’m just wondering if you were from the Florissant Mo. area?
No. Raytown, Missouri.
I am reading your book in my garden. Which means I consider it a good read…very few books are rose garden worthy. Church in the 80s was quite a wild ride, wasn’t it? I didn’t have to pretend as to my sexuality, but I think we all had to hide varying degrees of “otherness.” Some of us made it out, some didn’t.
Thank you for telling your story. I relate in many ways.
I’m glad my story merited the rose garden :). Enjoy!
Kelly, enjoyed your workshop at Writer’s Place. I am concerned that we talked so much we didn’t get all of your information. If that is so, let me know how to contact you or you can email me. Thanks.
